Budapest Police Probe F1 Tourist Scams

Taxi drivers ferried foreign fans to establishments where they were then ripped off

Budapest police are investigating incidents involving the exploitation of tourists at the recent Hungarian grand prix.
A police spokesman confirmed the investigation to borsonline.hu, following reports that taxi drivers ferried foreign race fans to establishments where they were then ripped off.

In one case, stop.hu said, three Swedish tourists - who caught a taxi from the Hungaroring and asked to be taken to their hotel - were forced to pay an exorbitant bill at a topless nightclub.

The scam allegedly also involves the topless waitresses, who entice the tourists to order overly-expensive drinks.  If the tourists refuse to pay, physical assaults can take place.
